Top sport insiders engage the young for Olympic legacy

IN THE KNOW: Asamoah Gyan's manager Dentaa will be on the panel

THE GHANIAN community is perpetuating London 2012’s Olympic legacy by hosting “a series of youth empowerment debate forums”, featuring a guest panel of professionals who have worked elite athletes including Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah, Cristiano Ronaldo and Roger Federer.

Entitled “Future of Sports in Ghana”, the first forum takes place September 21 at Chelsea Theatre, London. The debate series, set up by company Me FiRi Ghana, seeks to engage “a generation of young people” on sporting issues in relation to their communities.

The special panel comprises role models and Ghanaian community leaders such as sports choreographer Andy Ansah, Olympic basketball producer and sports presenter Benny Bonsu, executive producer and trace sport head of content Kwaku Mensah, and footballer Asamoah Gyan's manager Dentaa.

Participants will also get a chance to hear from guest speaker and Founder of the Arthur Wharton Foundation Shaun Campbell, who recently presented FIFA President Sepp Blatter an historic statue of Arthur Wharton, the first black professional footballer.

Additionally, the event supports the charity What About Me Campaign, which helps educational development of orphans and vulnerable children in Ghana.
