Tribute issued for man struck by train on 22nd birthday

DEATH: Declan Callum

THE FAMILY of a man, who died on his 22nd birthday after being struck by a train on a railway line near Coventry, have issued a tribute for their 'gentle giant'.

Officers have confirmed that the death of Declan Callum, who was believed to have been riding an off-road motorcycle before he was hit, ‘is currently being treated as non-suspicious’.

In a statement released last Friday (October 5th) the family said: “Declan Callum, beloved son of Angela and Steve, brother to Marlena and Remy, and uncle to his beloved niece Chalice, was known to all as ‘Big Dec’. He was a gentle giant with the biggest smile and heart.”

“Worshipped by family and friends, Declan, who would do anything for anybody, died tragically on his 22nd birthday doing the thing he loved the most - spending the day with friends on his motorbike.”

They added: “We wish to express our sincere gratitude for all the messages of sympathy and support we have received over the past 24 hours and respectfully ask for privacy during this extremely difficult time.”
