Trio of robbers jailed for Co-op raids

JAILED: The three men imprisoned

THREE MEN who carried out a series of robberies in 2012 stealing nearly £40,000 in cash from Co-operative stores have been jailed for a total of 14 years.

Amandeep Singh, 26, Ryan Landon Shaw, 20, and Jani Joseph Wright, 25, pleaded guilty to the crimes which were initiated between January and November 2012.

They struck 15 stores across the Midlands and north in their 10-month robbery spree which resulted in them taking £34,011 and £3,790-worth of euros and US dollars.

Sentenced today (Jan 30) at Stafford Crown Court, Shaw and Singh received four-and-a-half-year jail terms, while Wright got five years behind bars.

During their trial, the court heard how the men targeted store just before they were due to close.

Staff were threatened and forced to hand over keys to where money was kept in safes.

Store workers were not physically harmed, but many have been left traumatised by the robberies.

All three were arrested following a Staffordshire Police investigation in conjunction with other regional forces.

Detective chief inspector Paul Clews said: “These crimes were committed against hard-working members of our communities and left several of the victims traumatised.

"I hope the prison sentences in some way help to bring closure.”
