Vybz Kartel: 'I won't get a fair trial'

WORRIES: Dancehall star Vybz Kartel accuses Jamaican police of 'slaughtering' his character in the media

JAILED DANCEHALL star Vybz Kartel has claimed that he will not get a fair trial when he appears in court for murder.

The Cake Soap hit-maker, real name is Adidja Palmer, allegedly accused Jamaican police of using the media to 'slaughter' his character, in a letter to his friend and university professor Dr. Carolyn Cooper.

Kartel said he is being painted 'as an evil DJ by day, don by night and a murderer, who is society’s number one cause for crime and violence', reports the Jamaica Gleaner.

In the letter published in Professor Cooper’s Sunday Gleaner column, Kartel also said the officers have tried his case in the public eye and have already found him guilty.

The rapper then went on to accuse his the press as treating his case like a 'soap opera'.

Kartel and five other men are charged in connection with the murder, including fellow rapper Shawn Campbell, more popularly known as Shawn Storm, Kiro Jones, Shane Williams, Andre St. John and fashion designer Calvin Haye.

The victim was reportedly beaten and stabbed in Havendale, St. Andrew, on August 16, but the police have not located his body.

Officers have claimed that they have eye witness statements connecting the star to to the killing, and obtained video and audio recordings further linking Kartel to the crime.
