Weight loss wonder woman says faith spurred her on

NEW WOMAN: Audrey Howell credits God for helping her achieve a long held ambition to shed the pounds

AUDREY HOWELL is a symbol of hope to individuals wanting to lose weight. Two years ago she started on a weight loss programme, lost almost eight stones and now helps others do the same via her Facebook page by sharing her own experience, giving encouragement and posting useful tips.

Audrey, an IT desktop engineer based in Bristol, made a conscious decision to lose weight after deciding that she’d enough of losing weight and then regaining it. Thirteen years ago, she’d lost six stones but regained it after reverting to her old dietary habits.

This time round she wanted things to be different. She said: “I wanted to make a lifetime change. With tears in my eyes I asked God to help me because I knew it would not be easy this time around. Both of my parents have now gone home to glory but both suffered from Type 2 diabetes. The thought of getting diabetes really scared me into taking action.”

When Audrey started her weight loss programme she weighed 20st 7lbs. By September 2012, she had reached her goal of losing 7 stone 7lbs and as a result, was crowned Rosemary Conley Slimmer of the Year in Bristol at the end of 2012. It’s an accolade she relishes. She said: “I’m overjoyed and feel proud that I can let others see that big things can be achieved when you are willing to work hard for it. It really felt like it was a big award ceremony as everyone was cheering and taking lots of pictures.”

Audrey lost her weight by joining a Rosemary Conley Slimming club, reducing her calorie intake, and embarking on a fitness programme, which included going to a boot camp, taking zumba classes and doing kick boxing. She also set up an account with online diet club My Fitness Pal to keep track of her food intake.

She also credits her faith in God for helping her achieve her goal. “My faith has played a big part and each time I lost a pound I would go into my car on the drive home and give God thanks because I know it was Him who was driving me to succeed. Faith without works is dead. I owe this success to God. In the times when I felt low and started to doubt if I could achieve this He pushed me up to the next level.”

Though it’s not easy, Audrey is managing to maintain her new weight by continuing with her exercise programme and watching what she eats. She is keen to help others in any way she can, highlighting that it’s not impossible to lose those extra pounds.
