SNEAK PREVIEW: Our new website

WELCOME TO the Voice Newspaper’s brand new, cutting-edge website.

Following months of careful research and design, we are proud to present a new user-friendly and more visually appealing medium for you to access news from Britain's leading black publication.

Among the many changes you will notice better graphics, a wider choice of news and multimedia and a dedicated education section for undergraduates. You will also notice a new history section, which complies a comprehensive selection of news and videos from the past.

The Voice’s editor, Steve Pope, said: “Next year we celebrate the paper’s 30th anniversary, and so the launch of our new website is particularly significant. It marks the start of a new digital era for our paper.

“The quality will be incredible and will solidify our position as Britain’s biggest black newspaper. Like all other publications, The Voice was hit by the recession, but we have risen to the challenges thanks to our readers who have stuck with us throughout.

“Our website will now be able to compete visually with all the country’s leading websites, and I hope everyone likes it as much as we do.”

While The Voice’s circulation figures have remained steady, Voice Online web traffic has increased 154 percent over the last six months.

The website experienced a tremendous response to stories regarding the deaths of reggae singer Smiley Culture, which received more that 23,000 hits in a few hours, and Kingsley Burrell. Both died following contact with police.

Website coordinator Dionne Grant said: “A lot of hard work has gone into the new site, including building our online presence on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, and it is shown by the massive increase in traffic.

“We have taken all of our readers’ comments on board and have created a site that we hope reflects their feedback and suggestions.

“It has been a long road getting to this point, but a very rewarding one. We are very happy with the outcome and hope our readers are too. Enjoy!” She said.
