ADDICTION ISSUES: Wendy Williams has revealed that she's been staying in a sober house

US TALK show host Wendy Williams has opened up about her addiction issues and announced that she has been living in a sober house.

Williams, 54, held back tears as she made the revelation during her US daytime talk show yesterday.

“For some time now, and even today and beyond, I have been living in a sober house,” she said looking directly at the camera, surrounded by audience members.

She added: “You know I’ve had a struggle with cocaine in my past and I never went to a place to get the treatment. I don’t know how except God was just sitting on my shoulder.”

Williams said only her husband and son knew about her stay in the sober house and she had not even told her parents.

Recently there had been speculations over her health after she collapsed on camera during an episode of The Wendy Williams Show and an extended break from hosting the show earlier this year.

In her absence, a number of stars stood in for her, including Nick Cannon, Keke Palmer and Sherri Shepherd.

A statement released at the time, said was taking time off to focus on her personal and physical wellbeing after she experienced complications in relation to Graves’ disease, an autoimmune thyroid condition.

She encouraged people struggling with addiction to seek help. Williams, who co-founded The Hunter Foundation with her husband and son, has also launched a 24-hour hotline in conjunction with the foundation.

Responding to her announcement, CNN anchor Don Lemon, said: "I say bravest woman I know. Wendy Williams finally speaks her truth about recovery."
