Wenger wants Ipwich’s Mings for £8m

IPSWICH MAY lose their promising young centre-back Tyrone Mings to the Premier League in January as Arsenal prepare a reported £8m bid for the Englishman.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has about £20m to splash in the winter transfer window and it appears that the 21-year-old defender, who can also play at full-back, is one of his prime targets.

The Tractor Boys are understood to value Mings at around £10m, and Wenger may have to bid higher due to some of the other big clubs expressing interest in the 6ft 3in defender – Chelsea reportedly view him as a potential long-term replacement for captain John Terry.

Ipswich have already fended off attempts to prise away Mings, who was named September’s Championship Player of the month. In the summer, Crystal Palace saw a £3m bid rejected, but the Eagles may also come back with a higher offer as the versatile defender’s stock grows.
