What we know so far about Khalid Masood

TAKEN OUT: Khalid Masood was shot by police after his chaotic, deadly actions in Westminster

YESTERDAY THE police formally identified the Westminster terror culprit as British 52-year-old Khalid Masood.

Masood was born Adrian Russell Ajao in Kent and most recently lived in the West Midlands. It is believed that Masood lived in a number of towns, at various times, across West Sussex, East Sussex, Luton and east London.

The attacker was married and had three children against a backdrop of frequent prison stays, which ignited his conversion to Islam.

The qualified teacher claimed to have an economics degree - this hasn't been verified - and taught students in both Luton and Saudi Arabia.

The day after the London attack, ISIS claimed Masood as one of its "soldiers" although there are no indications so far of him acting in partnership with anyone in order to orchestrate Wednesday's fatal actions.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that he was also known by a number of aliases.

Scotland Yard said:

"Masood was not the subject of any current investigations and there was no prior intelligence about his intent to mount a terrorist attack.

"However, he was known to police and has a range of previous convictions for assaults, including grievous bodily harm, possession of offensive weapons and public order offences."

Police this morning raided the Brighton hotel where Masood slept on Tuesday night before making his way to London by road.
