Whats The Play? with Anthony 'Play' Douglas

UK RAP: Mr Play catches up with Queen Ice Cream

THIS WEEK, I’m thrilled to congratulate my boy Hashi, officially known as Dr Mahamed Hashi, for being voted in as Labour councillor and winning his first seat for Labour in the Stockwell ward!

It’s a proud moment to witness one of my very own brothers from the ends, who grew up and truly witnessed life as we knew/know it, to now represent our local community.

Hashi is also a highly respected and well-known figure in the Brixton community being founder of Brixton Soup Kitchen and his work with the Dominoes Club on Coldharbour Lane.

Labour now continues to dominate Lambeth council with the leadership of Hashi and fellow councillors Lucy Woodruff and Mohamed Jaser. Well done brother!

Out and about over the sunny May Bank holiday, I brought the "Mr Play" vibes to Rum Kitchen, followed by a visit to DJ Quincy’s birthday bash, where I jumped on the decks and managed to catch up with Queen Icecream. Queen Ice Cream’s remix of Cardi B Bodak Yellow" was definitely a hit, notching up thousands of plays on her SoundCloud. Her current ladies' anthem Pretty Gang has certainly got all the ladies rapping along with their friends and embracing that pretty gang vibe. She also showed her versatile side on Gappy Ranks' album Badness in 2017.

Here’s more on our catch up:

Q: Who is Queen Ice Cream?
A: Renowned female artist from North Weezy; formally known as one of the "Diva Twins", [a duo] which she formed with her sister Mafiella.

I was definitely one of the first female rappers in the UK to mix sexy and stylish fashion with extra fierce bars, letting everyone know that you didn't have to look like a tomboy to rap, but can look sexy and confident and still bring your talent to the table and give the guys a run for their money.

Q: Tell us more about your latest music project?

A: Well, I am back with a bang, and to seal my return I am dropping my first solo mixtape Pretty Trap Vol 1, which is about to drop any day now. Highly anticipated to be pure fire and full of trap anthems for the ladies.

Q: What intention do you have for the future of your music?

A: I want my music to empower and motivate women to love themselves and have the confidence to be whoever they want to be. My music promise being: lots of tracks to get the girls gassed.

Q:Where can we find Queen Ice Cream and follow your movement?

A: Look out for Pretty Trap Vol 1 and follow me: @icecreamthepostergirl and @queenicecream on all social media and support the females.
