When technology and diversity combine

RAISE TECH, a newly formed network focused on improving cultural diversity in the technology industry, marked its launch on June 8 at Diversity Decoded: Bringing a Cultural Perspective to Technology.

This popular event, hosted by PwC Multicultural Business Network, had attendance from both the founding partner organisations – which come from a variety of sectors but are widespread users of technology within their respective organisations – external industry guests and guest speakers.

The event featured interactive panel discussions and talks from key individuals; including keynote talk from Anne-Marie Imafidon, CEO at Stemettes.

There was also a panel discussion focussing on how best to bring a culturally diverse perspective to Tech.

The panel included; Sultan Mahmood, PwC Partner; Adrian Joseph, Director at Google; Amali de Alwis, CEO at Code First Girls; Miranda Brawn, co-Founder of Colorintech and Marieme Jamme, Founder of Spotone Global Solutions. Commonality among all those attending: a passion for the values a diverse workforce brings.

Raise Tech is a professional network which encourages race diversity and inclusion in the UK digital & technology sector for the benefit of employees, the companies they represent and the overall industry.

The network was announced at the Google Black History Month celebration in October 2014 with a call for partner organisations that were keen to build on the shared vision of diversity inclusion for the tech sector.

Since that initial announcement, and with the help of Business in the Community, the founding partner organisations have been collaborating to bring the network together.

Following the successful launch, Raise Tech will build on a number of upcoming initiatives to develop professionals of all ages, foster networking and engagement opportunities and recognise the achievements of its members – dates to be released.

Partner organisations include PwC, Google, BP, Cisco, CA Technologies, IBM, Bloomberg, Goldman Sachs and others.
