Woman shot dead by officer was not pregnant

POLICE SHOOTING: Pamela Turner, 44, was shot dead by an officer in Texas on Monday

A BLACK woman shot dead by a police officer in Texas was not pregnant despite saying she was just before she died.

Pamela Turner, 44, was fatally shot by an officer on Monday.

In a video that captured the shooting, which took place in Baytown, 25 miles east of Houston, Turner can be heard shouting: “I’m pregnant”.

She also shouts at the officer: "I'm walking! I'm actually walking to my house!" And accuses him of “harassing” her.

Yesterday, Baytown Police’s Lt Steve Dorris confirmed that Turner was not pregnant. He did not give further details about how this information had been established, CBS reported.

Family members have also said that Turner was not pregnant.

The officer, who has not been named, was patrolling a residential area when he came across Turner, a woman he was acquainted with from previous interactions.

Police have said the officer was aware that Turner had outstanding warrants and attempted to make an arrest but she was “able to gain control of the Taser and used it on the officer”.

The officer then fired several shots at Turner, killing her.

He then tried to give her first aid but she was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The officer who shot the grandmother has been placed on paid administrative leave as an investigation into the shooting continues.

Police are appealing for the person who captured the incident on video to come forward to assist them with their investigation.

"It's unfortunate that somebody take a tragic incident like this and start posting it on social media," CNN reported Dorris said. "That's extremely disrespectful for everybody involved."

“It’s a tragic event for everybody involved,” The Associated Press reported Dorris said. “Of course, our hearts go out to the family of the deceased as well as our officer.”
