X Factor runner-up Fleur East signs to Simon Cowell's label

SONGSTRESS: 2014 X Factor contestant Fleur East

DESPITE LOSING out to Ben Haenow in last year's X Factor final, runner-up Fleur East has been signed to Simon Cowell’s record label, Syco Music.

The singer, who finished second in the televised singing competition, is getting straight to work with the label, confirming her debut album will be released later this year.

“It means so much to be able to have the support and backing of such an amazing label as Syco. I’m so excited to finally have a platform to showcase my music,” said East.

Cowell, who mentored the 27-year-old throughout the series, added, “I am very happy to announce that Fleur East has signed to Syco Music.

"Fleur proved what a star she was on the show last year and now we look forward to starting work on her record.”

The singer, who has over 240k Instagram followers, made headlines with her performance of the unreleased Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' song Uptown Funk in December.

It wasn’t enough to beat Ben Haenow in the final, but Cowell still hailed it “the greatest performance” he’d witnessed on a talent contest.

East's rendition of the catchy song reached number one on the iTunes chart, before being knocked off the top spot by the original version.
