Youth footballer admits to death by careless driving charge

TEENAGE MANCHESTER City footballer Courtney Meppen-Walter has pleaded guilty to causing the death of two people by careless driving.

Appearing at the Manchester Magistrates’ Court yesterday (February 7), the 18-year-old admitted to causing the deaths of brother and sister Kulwant Singh, 32 and 36-year-old Ravel-Kaur Singh on September 1, 2012.

The siblings passed away after their Nissan Micra collided with Meppen-Walter’s Mercedes in Bury New Road in Manchester in September.

Meppen-Walter will be sentenced on February 28.

Police say that Ms Singh’s two teenage children, who were injured in the crash, were “making a good recovery”.

Meppen-Walter has not featured for City’s first team but has featured for England under-17s.
