Strip Gaddafi’s men of Olympic privilege

LAST WEEK we learnt that Libya has been given hundreds of tickets to the London 2012 Olympics.

The Libyan Olympic authority, headed by Colonel Gaddafi’s son Muhammad, are entitled to tickets as are every country taking part in the Games.

As the host nation Britain may fear embarrassment over this obligation. But I say embarrassment be damned. It’ll be like giving a fox the key to the hen house. What is the sense of honouring a pledge with someone you are at war with? Especially when millions of Brits have been denied tickets.

I know that politics is supposed to be separate but on this occasion, as during the apartheid years, the London Olympic authorities should evoke the spirit of EastEnders’ Peggy Mitchell and say: “Get out of my Games! You’re barred!”
