Recruiting: Theatre Royal Stratford seeking new chairperson

RECRUITING: Theatre Royal Stratford (TRSE) is seeking a chair of the board of trustees

THEATRE ROYAL Stratford (TRSE) is an award winning producing theatre based in east London at the heart of Europe’s largest regeneration area.

Last year TRSE played to an overall 86 per cent audience capacity and maintained its commitment to accessible ticket pricing, with 59 per cent of tickets sold at the concessionary rate.

Arts Council England has increased its core funding for the organisation over the next three years on the basis that “the organisation has a commitment to producing work inspired by diversity. TRSE is often cited as an example of best practice in this area within the wider industry”.

TRSE is building strong partnerships in the creative and business communities, and increased its fundraising income by £200,000 from the previous year. Looking forward, TRSE has a bold vision for growth and development. Its relationship with the National Theatre will be manifested by the building of a new studio theatre which is the sister of the NT’s temporary theatre.

We are now seeking a chair to succeed Carol Lake, who will work with the Artistic Director/CEO and Executive Director to lead the theatre into the next stage of its evolution.

We are looking for a strong and committed leader who can act as an advocate for the organisation at the highest levels.

The new chair will have strong influencing skills and authority, good judgement and be a motivator for the rest of the Board. Previous professional or voluntary experience in the arts is not a prerequisite but a passion for theatre and a commitment to our values is essential.
