International Film Festival To Shine On Birmingham

City welcomes back Black International Film Festival that starts next Sunday

LIGHTS, CAMERA, action! The Black International Film Festival (BIFF) is about to hit the red carpet in Birmingham where the best from the world of film and TV soaps are to be recognised.

The seventh annual week-long festival will be held at top spots in the city from October 27, with the highpoint being the BIFF award ceremony – the Movie & Screen Awards (MVISAs) on November 2 at the International Convention centre.

It will be jointly hosted by former EastEnders actor Chucky Venn, and award-winning actress Lorna Laidlaw, who plays receptionist Mrs Tembe in the BBC soap Doctors.

This year’s BIFF, which has the support of Film Birmingham, has also partnered with Nollywood Movies, the 24-hour Nigerian film channel.

Nigerian superstar Omotola Jalade Ekeinde is also set to attend and will pick up an achievement award for the major role she has played in helping to promote African cinema.

Best Soap (WBC): EastEnders/ Doctors/ Coronation Street/ Emmerdale.

Best factual production: One Mile/ MLK and the March on Washington/ Behind Bars.

Best long running drama: Casualty/ Holby City/ Waterloo Road/ Shameless.

Best TV drama (WBC): Ice Cream Girls/ Youngers/ Top Boy/ Luther.

Best online production: Ryan Sisters/ Man Dem on the Wall/ We are Young/ Brothers no Game.

Best Independent TV Channel: Vox Africa/ Ben TV/ Nollywood Movies/ OHTV.

Best TV Channel: BBC1/ Channel Four/ BBC3.

Best Theatre Production: Josephine and I/Amen Corner/ Soul Sister/ One Monkey Don’t Stop No Show.
