Black Futures Month at the BCA

October at the only national repository of black history and culture in the UK sees a series of events taking place throughout the month for everyone.

The #BCAFest2019 is part of their Black Futures Month.

DURING THE month, #BCAFest2019 will screen a mix of feature films and shorts focused on films from the past that celebrate black British history and heritage.

Screenings will take place at the Genesis cinema in east London on October 13 and the Prince Charles cinema in central London on October 14.

Bino and Fino / Jemima + Johnny
Sunday October 13 | 1:00 PM
Genesis Cinema will be screening Lionel Ngakane’s award-winning short film Jemima + Johnny, as well as three episodes of Bino and Fino followed by a meet and greet with the characters behind the animation.

The Way We Live Now
Monday October 14 | 6:00 PM
TV documentary in which reporter Richard Lindley goes to the borough of Brent to discover how Blacks and Asians see themselves in a mainly white community and how white neighbours regard them.

Black Joy
Monday October 14 | 8:00 PM
Based on Jamal Ali’s acclaimed stage play Dark Days and Light Nights, Black Joy tells the story of a naïve Guyanese immigrant who learns the hard way about life on the streets of Brixton.

HERO
Sunday October 27 | 5:00 PM Directed by Frances-Anne Solomon and shot in Trinidad, Ghana, the UK and Canada, HERO is the story of Ulric Cross, who left his small island home in 1941 to seek his fortune, and became the RAF’s most decorated West Indian.
