WINNER: Blessing Chitapa has won this year's competition

THE SOCIALLY distanced final of The Voice UK 2020 was won by Blessing Chitapa.

She now has a recording contract with Universal.

Chitapa said: “I am so proud of how far I have come and I’m so intrigued to see what the future holds.”

All the show’s finalists pre-recorded their performances last week.

Show mentors Will.i.am, Tom Jones, Meghan Trainor, Olly Murs and a virtual audience watched them.

Chitapa’s win could be slightly awkward for her mentor. Murs said he would effectively dance naked if she won the show.

Still he congratulated her on her, saying she ‘absolutely deserved’ her crown.

“To think I was the only coach who turned for her is amazing,” he added.

Most of the show’s finalists joined their mentors on stage for a duet. The only exception was Meghan Trainor, who could not travel due to COVID.

She was replaced by Ella Eyre. The starlet sang Giant by Rag n’ Bone Man with finalist Brooke Scullion.

Murs and Chitapa sang Hold Back The River by James Bay. Will.i.am and finalist Gevanni Hutton sang No Woman, No Cry by Bob Marley. Finalist Jonny Brooks and Sir Tom Jones performed Drift Away by Dobie Gray.
