THE POWER Of_ Festival is coming to Lambeth Town Hall this June, celebrating the very best of Black British culture.

Backed by fashion and creative heavyweights FARFETCH, Fred Perry & Nikon, the festival, which takes place on June 12 – 13, features a series of provocative panel talks, showcases music and celebrates art from emerging Black artists.
This includes ‘The Power of Black Culture’ panel in collaboration with the leading global platform for the luxury fashion industry, FARFETCH.
Opinion formers Jeanie Annan Lewin and Harris Elliott will contribute to discussions on the impact that Black identity has made to British culture and beyond.
‘The Power of Collaboration’ masterclass will be led by Fred Perry and Art Comes First. Sam Lambert and Shaka Maidoh will lead the masterclass and also an interactive workshop where attendees will have the opportunity to get creative and use customisable prints developed by ACF mentees, to create their own piece of art.
Shaka Maidoh from Art Comes First said: “Hosting our own masterclass and interactive workshop at The Power Of_ festival gives us the opportunity to shine a spotlight on our community and show creativity in all its diversity.”
The event will also showcase photographs from the inaugural winner of The Power of Black Identity competition.
Karis Beaumont will receive £6,000 in camera equipment, have one-to-one sessions at the Nikon school, will receive expert mentoring from industry heavyweights, plus her images will be displayed on billboards across central London courtesy of Jack creative.
Winner, Beaumont commented: “I am delighted to win The Power of Black_ Identity competition, with my photographic series ‘Bumpkin Files’.
“Having my work showcased at The Power of_ festival is a perfect way for me to reach a large audience and raise awareness of Black culture in art.”
Other events include a music showcase in collaboration with Fred Perry, a panel – featuring The Black Curriculum Founder Lavinya Stennett – on The Power of Protest, and another on The Power of Beauty Bias with renowned beauty writer Ateh Jewel.
Founder of diversity equity and inclusion consultancy, The (Fashion) Minority Report, Daniel Peters, said: “It’s important that we look back on 2020 as the year that the world came together to stop failing marginalised voices, not least in the creative field.
“The Power Of_ Festival is an unmissable showcase of Black identity, and an opportunity for people to listen, learn and celebrate from some of the best in their field.”
Councillor Sonia Winifred, Lambeth Council Cabinet Member for Equality and Culture on hosting the event added: “The protests that began in the US and spread across the world were a wake-up call for many people who may have thought modern Britain was free of racism and inequality.
“But in Lambeth we are acutely aware of the obstacles we must overcome to live in a better, fairer society.
“Black African or Caribbean people remain underrepresented in fashion and the arts. So, I hope this event can inspire the next generation of creators and innovators to make their mark on the world.”
