Patoranking goes ‘Kolo Kolo’ on latest release

PATORANKING RETURNS: New music

NIGERIAN PATORANKING dropped his first new release since 2021’s Headies Award-winning “Celebrate Me,’ this week and told the Voice that the new single, ‘Kolo Kolo’, will be followed by two more before he releases his fourth album next year.

‘Kolo Kolo’, featuring Tanzania’s Diamond Platinumz, is a joyous afrobeats banger, produced by Yung Willis.

The track opens with a seductive horn melody, setting the stage for Patoranking and Diamond Platinumz to serenade their love interests in Nigerian Pidgin and Swahili, respectively.

“Kolo Kolo” reunites Patoranking with Yung Willis, who produced “Celebrate Me,” winner of the Best Recording of the Year award at the 15th Annual Headies Awards held recently in Atlanta.

Patoranking also won for Best Reggae/Dancehall Album with Three at this year’s Headies, the first edition of the prestigious African music awards show to be held in the U.S.

Speaking on what the win meant to him, Patoranking enthused: “Well, to me; winning the Headies for the Best Recording is just a reaffirmation to the world what my music in general represents.

“The goal is to create records that can play for a lifetime, though we would chip in one or two dance singles for people to use to relieve stress.

“But the main aim whenever I’m in front of that microphone is to tell my story or someone else’s story and make it relatable.

“It’s evident when you listen to my songs and pay close attention to every detail.”

He added: “For the Reggae/Dancehall category; it was already a win for me even before the night because a random kid on the streets of Nigeria would tell you with facts that Patoranking is the Best Reggae/Dancehall artiste in Nigeria and one of the finest from the continent, and I can prove that anyday anytime like I did on the award stage that night.

“The Headies being our biggest music award scheme to merit our hard works and for the first time being held outside of Nigeria in Atlanta; it’s an honor being back on that stage once again because I remember that same platform telling Nigeria and the world eight years ago to look out for me as the next biggest star from Nigeria when I won the Next Rated Award for 2014.

“So to be back on that same stage once again felt super great. Especially with it being held in the heart of America where our music “Afrobeats” is a big deal now, it brings us closer to the dream than ever. Shouts the Headies for that.”

Through a new partnership between his own Amari Musiq label and The Orchard, Patoranking is currently putting the touches on his as-yet untitled fourth album, coming early next year.

Talking us through his plans for the rest of the year and beyond he said: “I’m currently putting finishing touches on my fourth album, being a dad and of course my new single “Kolo Kolo” featuring Diamond Platnumz is one of the records currently.

“I will be dropping at least two more singles this year before the album is out officially in 2023.

“Also I’m working on a big project for Africa during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. I’ll share more details soon.”

This Caribean Dancehall influenced song by the NIGERIAN PATORANKING, is expertly produced, with meaningful lyrics.

I am sure “Kolo” will be played in the clubs of Africa; the Caribbean and the United States and Europe.
