CREATING MISCU, a music sharing platform that functioned like a social media app, started during an exam for Gianni O’Connor who, instead of writing answers to his questions, got distracted and began writing lines of code.

The project was the 29-year-olds first foray into his current career and some say it was an early precursor to Spotify.

Six years ago O’Connor founded Trad3r – A social trading platform with the mission to make the stock market more accessible by ‘gamifying trading’.

The app enables users to earn points and and win prizes through successfully trading stock from companies such as Snapchat and Twitter.

The rewards users can win vary between discounted meals to VIP experiences, all for free. The app has raised millions from angel investors and has garnered over 8M users.

O’Connor hasn’t stopped there – the entrepreneur’s ambition has led him to his latest venture, trailblazing gaming company Go Games which has now released the most sophisticated AI ever to be found in a consumer device.

A strong vein which has run through O’Connor’s career is the ethos of accessibility.

All of his ventures have strived to make institutions such as machine learning or stock trading more appealing to the masses.

Speaking on the importance of having Black founders in tech and his vision for the company, he enthused: “Being a Black founder in any space always comes with its challenges.

“I love being a Black founder in the AI space because I’m able to develop an AI free of stigma, an AI that can approach people in a completely unbiased way.

“Considering how I grew up, being stigmatized and maybe being judged, I’m glad to be able to build something that can really analyse data and people in a way that is free of scrutiny.”

A self-made millionaire in every right, O’Connor aims to give young people access to the tools and resource to build an interest in the lucrative finance and tech fields.

The Middlesex born businessman is one of the only black founders in the AI space.

Talking about the future for his latest venture he said: “Go Games is looking to come into a world gaming has never really stepped into.

“We’re looking to come into AI from a light-hearted, customer-led perspective and really looking at how we could improve your life.

“So, I would say that Go Games is looking at AI from a more human perspective by prioritising how it could help consumers with not only day-to-day tasks but more complex topics like mental health support. That’s our aim.”

He added: “It’s important that we’re able to access the things that are out there and possible.

“A lot of the time, cutting-edge technology stays in research labs, unable to see the light of day.

“We’ve seen electric and self-driving cars now for quite a while and they’ve really put advanced tech into a consumer perspective – this is the trajectory I’m trying to build on with Go Games.”

2022 Black Unity Bike Ride is a huge success

What – more sophisticated than the iPhone?!

    Somehow I doubt it.
