HAVING HIS dream dismissed and laughed at in high school has fuelled Dwayne ‘Kapri’ Wallace in a way few might not have known until now.

One of the most talented and gifted people with an innate passion for music that could launch him into extraordinary heights, Wallace, popularly known as Kapri, tells the Voice: ‘Nothing is unachievable once I’m locked in and focused.’

Recently announcing his highly anticipated new single ‘Raise Yuh Glass’, Kapri dishes out priceless gems in this track and encourages people to keep striving to achieve their goals.

Born and raised in the community of Pembroke Hall in Kingston to parents Nelsie Williams and Cecil Wallace on February 12, 1988, Wallace attended Pembroke Hall Primary School.

He later went on to attend Pembroke Hall High School at age thirteen. During his school tenure, Wallace was a member of the school choir and over time, he and the people around him started to notice his musical talent.

“My teacher once asked all the students in my class what they wanted to be,” Kapri recalls.

“I replied (I want to travel the world and perform in front of thousands the world will know my name and my story) she laughed and said ‘It is really good to have big dreams but one day you will have to wake up and you might be at the stoplight selling me water wiping my car glass,’.

“All my classmates laughed but I smiled.”

Kapri added: “Fast-forward years later my songs are being played on radio stations worldwide, being viewed one YouTube by people all over the world.

“I’ve traveled to many countries, states and cities. I even went back to my old school in Spanish town to visit that same teacher.

“I didn’t have a glass to raise but I gave her a hundred dollars US, and a one litre bottle of spring water. In short, that one insult from years ago helped to fuel my ambitions even more.”

Gradually gaining confidence in his musical talent, in the years since high school Kapri started putting himself out into the musical space.

He reunited with an old friend named Sean “Seanizzle” Reid, who was knee-deep into music and had worked with several top Jamaican artists like Beenie Man, Mavado, Elephant Man, T.O.K, and so many more.

Reid invited Wallace to the studio where he was working at the time and introduced him to Producer/Recording Artiste “Mr. G,” where he auditioned for a riddim called Stepfather.

Kapri’s newest single ‘Raise Yuh Glass’ is produced by Seanizzle, a multi-billboard chart-topping producer.

The song is quite an exceptional track that encourages people to remain focused on their life pursuits and never give up on their goals regardless of the obstacles that may arise while working towards their goals.

Kapri lyrically speaks his mind and orchestrates a deeply related melody that many listeners will relate to and enjoy.

Kappri said: “Throughout my journey in life thus far I tend to realise that the more fight I received or the more someone doubted my abilities the more I wanted to show them that I’m born for greatness and nothing is outside of my reach.”

He added: “So I now tell the people to use the doubt and negative things people say as fuel to achieve the impossible or whatever your heart’s desire go get it and double back and show them that you beat the odds.

“Raise your glass to them.”
