The Journey from Yard to Broad

AFFECTIONATELY KNOWN as “CJ the Purposition Man” or as the “Poetic Preacher” within both church and spoken word circles, Clarence Jackson told the Voice that he hoped his latest book – The Journey continues from Yard to Broad – would be a source of inspiration and encouragement for those looking to live a life of purpose, on purpose.

This book is for those seeking meaning and purpose in their lives and for those who desire a dose of hope and inspiration along with a taste of divine intervention on their journey,” begins Clarence.

He continues: “This latest book, which is a continuation of the first, highlights the obstacles and victories in my own pursuit of purpose and fulfilment. It is about prayer, perseverance, faith and watching impossibilities turn into possibilities. Some people know where I am coming from but only God knows where I am going.

“The main difference is that this book highlights the importance of having a new mind-set to face the new challenges which come our way.

“The end result will be a stronger faith in God which subsequently leads the reader one step closer to fulfilling their life purpose.”

Jackson is deeply passionate about living life on purpose and through The Purposition Project which he directs, he often encourages the youth he mentors to reflect on their potential career and life aspirations which are facilitated through specifically tailored mentoring and inspirational workshops to awaken the purpose to be found within themselves.

“In my first book – The Journey from Yard to Broad (2019): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7VKt4OgsGA – I write about some of the struggles I encountered when moving to London from Jamaica as a teenager during the summer of 2002,” says Jackson.

“As well as the language and cultural barriers, I also experienced immigration and peer pressure issues. But what got me through those challenging times was my faith in God alongside the forming of friendships which positively contributed to my journey in finding my life purpose.

“For many young people, and black boys in particular, who are trying to find their way – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayJRz1sgv64 life is not easy but a little determination and courage is all that it takes to push you on in the right direction.”

The same determination and courage Jackson speaks about here is just what he needed to draw from himself having become the father of two young children whilst working on this latest book.

While for some authors such a change in circumstance could pose a real challenge, in Clarence’s case it was rather different.

“I had to learn the art of self-discipline, organisation, maximising opportunities and working with the time afforded. It was a tremendous sacrifice, but I knew it was possible through prayer and commitment.

“I had to make the time by working around the family and creating a routine, especially at night when quieter. Plus in Francesca, I have a very supportive wife, which can only help my cause.”

As in his first book, Jackson touches upon some of the life obstacles he had to overcome including personal battles with doubt: “Having a glimpse of the end and not the process is complicated and taking the first step when you can’t see the stair case’ does challenge the core of your being,” he said, before adding: “I struggled with the idea of ‘coming to edge’, wanting something to happen but not knowing what would happen.

“Doubt has always been a significant obstacle. But with desire, belief and reflection on how God has led me in the past, I am then able to rise above doubt and press forward in faith knowing that it is the same principles and same God who can pave the way for success.”

With the book set to be published on November 7 through Amazon and followed by a special book launch taking place on November 13 at the City Gates Conference Centre, 25-29 Clements Rd, Ilford IG1 1BH at 6:30 pm, Jackson, who was heartened by the reception he received to his first book, had the following message to share regarding what to expect from his latest book:

“I want readers to know that where all possibilities end, impossibilities begin. Our calling and purpose are in His mind. To find and fulfil that purpose will take heart, soul, mind, strength and total trust.

“The outcome is sure. Accept the call and trust the process.”
