BBC releases first look of John Boyega in Small Axe film

Red, White and Blue spotlights the true story of Leroy Logan, who saw his father assaulted by two policemen, motivating him to join the Metropolitan Police and change their racist attitudes from within

OFFICER LOGAN: John Boyega landed the lead role

JOHN BOYEGA and Steve Toussaint star with talented newcomers Tyrone Huntley, Nathan Vidal and Jaden Oshenye. Red, White and Blue was co-written by Courttia Newland and Steve McQueen.

Small Axe was created and directed by Oscar® and BAFTA-winning director Steve McQueen.

The five films tell personal stories about London’s West Indian community from the late-1960’s to mid-1980’s. The title is derived from an African proverb, which has resonance throughout the Caribbean, “if you are the big tree, we are the small axe”.

This was made popular by Bob Marley and the Wailers with the song ‘Small Axe’ from the album Burnin’ (1973).

The five films that make up Small Axe are: Mangrove, Lovers Rock, Alex Wheatle, Education and Red, White and Blue.

Each of the Small Axe films will receive their world premieres on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK later this year.

Small Axe has been executive produced by Tracey Scoffield and David Tanner for Turbine Studios and Steve McQueen for Lammas Park.

Mike Elliot is producing for EMU Films with Turbine and Anita Overland.
