ACTOR, DIRECTOR, producer and writer Noel Clarke is set to be awarded for his brilliant work in the wonderful world of film.

The 45-year-old is set to be honoured at this year’s British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA’s) for his Outstanding British Contribution to cinema.

The esteemed actor will pick up the prize on on Saturday April 10 as part of the BAFTA Film Awards Opening Night Ceremony.

Clarke is reported to be the only actor who will pick up his award in person on the night, due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

The main BAFTA ceremony will take place on Sunday April 11.

The organisation announced the news on social media saying: “We are very excited to announce that actor, producer, writer, and director Noel Clarke will receive the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema Award at the 2021 BAFTAs.”

“Noel Clarke has played a pivotal role in bringing diversity to British screens in front and behind the camera and pushing underrepresented talent and stories to the forefront of cinema and television,” the BAFTA’s later added.

Clearly pleased by the news, Clarke simply responded: “Wow thank you!”

Later on, he shared his advice for anyone hoping to make it in the industry: “Thanks for all the kind words: I’m processing so all I can say right now to all of you that work hard to achieve things is this.

“Stay weird, stay unconventional, be you!”

He added: “I will endeavour to continue to make ground-breaking work and open doors for underrepresented people that may not often get a chance.”

It’s not the first accolade for the actor. In 2009, he was awarded the BAFTA Rising Star Award. For his performance in Where Do We Live? at the Royal Court, he was awarded the Laurence Olivier Award for Most Promising Newcomer.

Alongside Top Boy, Clarke is also well-known and loved for his appearances in hit TV series Bulletproof as well as his appearances in Kidulthood(2006), Adulthood(2008) and Brotherhood (2016).

The star directed the last two award-winning films.

He started out his career in Channel 4 series Metrosexuality.

This year is the 74th BAFTA awards.
