BritJam heads to Jamaica for spring break

The popular festival is celebrating its 10th year

BRITJAM, THE popular spring break festival from the UK to Jamaica, held its 10th anniversary celebrations at the Jamaican High Commission in London. 

The celebrations, which doubled as a launch for this year’s event, was once again sponsored by Victoria Mutual and supported by the Jamaican High Commission and The Safety Box.

The launch, which took place on February 28, was filled with food, music, culture and speeches, and a specially baked 10th anniversary cake from JamIn member Dennice Doyle was cut.

Interviews were heard from reggae musicians Sizzla and I-Octane, and members of the diaspora community that have been engaged with BritJam over the years.

In attendance and bringing remarks were high commissioner Seth George Ramocan and chief representative officer for Victoria Mutual, Leighton Smith. The keynote speaker for the event was Carol Hay, director of Mckenzie Gayle Ltd, formerly of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation UK. 

Also present were the Global Jamaica Diaspora council representatives for the South, youth chair Tanesha West Carr and elected representative Nathaniel Peat who brought well wishes.

As BritJam embarks on its 10th anniversary, the brand has seen significant growth over the years. The festival continue to attract thousands of millennials who see BritJam as a best kept secret and  many return with others of similar interests each year.

This festival is a unique product, simply because the concept is based on infusing British and American Culture with Jamaican Culture while providing an adventurous and fun filled party atmosphere with familiar faces. 

BritJam director Khori Hyde said the festival prides itself in continuous quality improvement. He said: “Patrons can expect a further enriched experience for our 10th staging between March 11-15 under the theme ‘Jamaica Spring Break Music Festival’.”

BritJam offers five premium night events in five days plus daytime excursions, including the Ultimate Play Party Chukka Adventure.

The festival kicks off on Wednesday, March 11 with Glamorous All Black – The Official Welcome Party at Montego Bay Convention Centre; Thursday, March 12 will be Shorts Circuit at Margaritaville, Montego Bay; Friday, March 13 will be the All White Beach Party at Topical Bliss, Montego Bay; Saturday, March 14 will have two events – Super Nova Neon Lights at Pier 1, Montego Bay and the premium UPPA Chukka Excursion to CHUKKA Ocean Outpost, Sandy Bay, Hanover. 

The festival concludes on Sunday, March 5 with Wata War at Aquasol, Montego Bay.

BritJam is regarded as the ultimate party holiday, delivering non-stop party and adventure action in the tourist capital of Montego Bay and Western Jamaica featuring popular UK, US and Jamaican DJ’s and artists to showcase their talents.
