This is one very special Blackbird

Whatever you do, don't miss the Lady Blackbird wave

DISTINCTIVE VOICE: Lady Blackbird

LAST MONTH saw the release of Blackbird, the debut single from hotly tipped US vocalist Lady Blackbird.

A stirring interpretation of Nina Simone’s powerful civil rights anthem, the track is imbued with passion, enthusiasm and hope and signals the arrival of a revelatory new voice on the global jazz scene.

The LA based singer is already being compared to the likes of Grace Jones, Adele, Amy Winehouse and Brits 2020 Rising Star award winner Celeste.

Speaking on creating the new track Lady Blackbird enthused: “Being in the legendary Studio B, (Prince’s room), in Sunset Sound with my band and my producer Chris Seefried was a ground-breaking moment for me as an artist.

“It helped me find a way to express who I am now and marked the re-birth of me as Lady Blackbird.”

Lady Blackbird (aka Marley Munroe) possesses a style and emotional intensity that is very much her own.

Her forthcoming debut album Black Acid Soul, which was produced by Chris Seefried and features a stellar band including former Miles Davis pianist Deron Johnson, presents a wholly fresh take on the jazz vocal idiom from an artist blessed with a bold, unmistakeable voice.
