THE ORGANISERS of Wireless festival have announced details of the line up for their new virtual offering after the COVID-19 pandemic forced them to cancel this year’s event.

Wireless Festival and MelodyVR have today released the names of some of the artists who will be performing at Wireless Connect, a three-day virtual festival taking place 3-5 July.

Stefflon Don, Mist, Saweetie, JAY1 are among those who will deliver exclusive new performances, filmed this month at London’s iconic Alexandra Palace and MelodyVR’s state-of-the-art safe LA studio.

The musician’s sets will be broadcast in a 360° immersive virtual reality on smartphones and VR headsets via the MelodyVR app. The festival will also stream on the Wireless Facebook Live and Wireless YouTube channels.

Wireless performances from 2019 by Skepta, Young Thug, Rae Sremmurd and others will also feature on the programme.

As well as new performances and 2019 highlights, Wireless Connect will also showcase previously unseen footage.

Across the weekend, listeners can tune in to Capital XTRA for exclusive artist interviews.

The full Wireless Connect schedule, which will include more artists, will be announced shortly.

The virtual festival is free to experience but viewers are being encouraged to make a donation to Black Lives Matter via Crowdfunder.

Wireless Connect is the latest in virtual experiences developed by the music industry. Like many in the sector impacted by the coronavirus outbreak, Wireless organisers have sought out innovative ways to keep live music on the map.

Elsewhere artists including Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Beenie Man and Bounty Killer have gone head-to-head live as part of the Verzuz series.

Others such as Mahalia have used the lockdown to inspire new material, while yesterday’s BET Awards were a completely virtual affair.
