Bob Marley’s ‘Legend’ has made history by becoming the second album ever to spend 13 years on the Billboard 200.

The Reggae icon will now join Rock band, Pink Floyd, as the only artists to achieve this milestone or longer.

Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ has been on the chart for almost 1,000 weeks and Marley’s compilation album has spent a record-breaking 676 weeks, which is equal to 13 years.

This latest achievement is one to be celebrated, says Broadcaster and DJ, Ernie Harriott, who is best known as Daddy Ernie. Speaking to The Voice he said: “That album encapsulates what he is all about and it has all the big hits – which we know and love.

“There will never be another Bob Marley and we are never going to get that body of music on one album again.

“This achievement has cemented his name, in not just Reggae, but music in general.

“I am sure the album will be on Billboard for another 13 years.”

Mr Harriott, has been at the forefront of the Reggae music scene in the UK for over 30 years, says more support is needed for current Reggae singers.

He said: “There are other albums which should be on the Billboard chart for a considerable amount of time, but they are not.

“Unfortunately, there are some people who do not want Reggae to reach its full potential and that is what we are up against.”

The veteran DJ went on to encourage Reggae fans to continue to buy and stream Jamaican music.

The chart-topping album, contains all ten of Marley’s Top 40 hit singles in the UK. It also includes three songs with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer who were part of the original Wailers alongside Marley.

For the Vibes FM DJ, he is not surprised Marley is responsible for the second-longest-charting title of all time in the United States.

He said: “The album title is self-explanatory, that is what Marley is, a legend!”

‘Legend’ was released in May 1984 on Island Records and went on to become the best-selling Reggae album of all time.
