A new monthly podcast titled ‘Mind The Gap’ explores cultural pressures first generations living in the U.K experience. Every month a surprise guest speaker joins presenter and producer, Lisa Wahinya, to discuss who they are, where they come from and what they stand for. Worldwide comedian, Eddie Kadi, and award-winning actor and filmmaker, Femi Oyeniran, are among the list of previous guests. On the latest episode, Love Island Samira Mighty, spoke about black beauty standards, struggling with mental health and life after the villa.

When speaking about why she started Mind The Gap the 25 year old podcaster said, “I came to the U.K when I was six and I remember missing home so much that I would cry. Then I went home after a few years and realised it wasn’t home anymore because they no longer saw me as one of them. Ever since I’ve just been trying to stay connected however way I can. I wanted to find out how others like me felt and create a safe space for us.”

Episode 7 will be dropping on the 24th this month with Ikram Mohamed as a guest speaker. Having grown up in the U.K, Ikram was taken abroad at the age of 14 in an attempt from her parents to ensure that Ikram’s religious and cultural beliefs didn’t become affected by her environment. Mind The Gap is available across all podcasting platforms including Spotify and Apple Podcast.
