PECKHAM LEVELS have announced a jam-packed programme of events for the month of March.

Sunday March 8 will be devoted to International Women’s Day with events including Divine Women, a live music show hosted by an all-female line up, supporting sisterhood and female talent within the industry whilst creating a safe and inclusive space for all women to come together.

On the same day, The Looking Glass Collective will be hosting an International Women Day Textile Workshop, celebrating all things womanhood. Attendees can learn how to design their own tote bag using vinyls and a heat press technique. 

If you’re a music fanatic Peckham Levels is the place to be this March. As well as the Black Listening Party the Levels will be hosting the return of Fireball Sessions (Thursday 5), a high energy night of interactive live music. Focus Africa (Saturday 21) will also be returning to Peckham Levels as they take over the Auditorium for a night of African rhythms, colours and melodies.

Entertaining guests will be a pioneer of Afro-funk and High Life, Paapa Jeh Mensah and his band, the South-London-based Afro Funksion. Peckham Levels’ Check The Levels event series will be hosting female DJ’s only with appearances from Rae Dee and 211 Girls. Black Listening Party (Sunday 22nd) are also back for another edition, this time celebrating the contribution that black women have made in music with workshops, panels and an intimate listening party format. 

First of a monthly series, the On The Level Comedy Showcase will be taking place on Thursday 26. Hosted by comedian Christina Gulick, the new series will be bringing local comedy legends and rising stars to the stage. 

March at Peckham Levels will be filled with an abundance of FREE film screenings to keep the whole family entertained.

Join Minute Offline (Wednesday 4) for their first Film Screening event of 2020, where they’ll be screening six independent short films focusing on the subject of identity, and a panel discussion celebrating the diverse talent making moves in the film industry.

Deeper Into Movies will be returning for the month of March presenting interesting and unusual films and documentaries. Bring It On (Monday 2nd), Machete (Tuesday 10), American Psycho (Tuesday 17), Marie Antoinette (Tuesday 24), Whip It (Tuesday 31). On Sunday 22nd there will also be a very special marathon devoted to The Simpsons. They’ve gone through 29 seasons and 600+ episodes and will be taking guests through their favourites from 3-9 pm. This month’s free Kids Film Club will also be screening Richie Rich (Saturday 21).

Deeper Into Movies: Bring It On @ Auditorium (7pm-close) – FREE
The Toro cheerleading squad from Rancho Carne High School in San Diego has got spirit, spunk, sass and a killer routine that’s sure to land them the national championship trophy for the sixth year in a row. But for newly-elected team captain Torrance, the Toros’ road to total cheer glory takes a shady turn when she discovers that their perfectly-choreographed routines were in fact stolen from the Clovers, a hip-hop squad from East Compton, by the Toro’s former captain.

Wednesday March 4
Minute Shorts @ Auditorium (6.30-9.30pm) – FREE
Join Minute Offline for their first Film Screening event of 2020, where they will be showing the very best independent short films. Through this event, Minute Offline are highlighting the work and journeys of a series of independent filmmakers through screening their latest short film and having a panel discussion celebrating the diverse talent making moves in the film industry. The night will feature six independent short films that will later feature on the app and will have as focus on the subject of Identity.

Thursday March 5
Fireball Sessions @ Auditorium (6pm-close) – FREE
Hosted by MckNasty, Fireball sessions is a monthly night of interactive live music, engaging artists and audiences alike. Featuring some of the UK’s best live musicians and both new and established artists it provides a platform for live cross-genre collaboration.

Check The Levels: Rae Dee @ Near & Far (7pm-close) – FREE
Rae Dee has quickly established herself as a regular on the Shoreditch clubbing scene, known for her versatile style that can adapt to any crowd. Playing genres from Hip Hop, Afro House, Future Bounce to Dancehall, Rae Dee’s open format style and love for music makes her selections and mixes fun and unique. She currently holds a monthly residency at Concrete in Shoreditch, and has played at Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes, The Ends Festival, Nike Town London, The Book Club, Trapeze, Brixton Jamm, Troxy and much more. Rae Dee has been DJing for less than 12 months and will continue to grow and share her love of music at all venues events she plays at.

Youth Market @ The Gallery (11am-5pm) – FREE
The Made in Peckham Levels Youth Market is a marketplace where young people, mainly between the ages of 16-25 (not limited to this age range) are able to sell their services and products to the community and anyone interested. This is a great opportunity for young businesses to sell, network and receive information about Makeshift’s Business Basic Workshops which provide guidance to young business owners.

This bi-monthly event showcases some of the finest animated minds from around London. Meet your
animation heroes and see what ‘toons have inspired them to create! Each animator will present their favourite animation that fits within a given theme, as well as some recent work from their own collection.

Friday March 13
Jay Dolce @ Near & Far (8pm-close) – FREE
London’s breakout DJ, Jay Dolce, is making her stamp across the London scene, having been on an upward trajectory ever since starting off as a bedroom DJ in 2017, with no signs of slowing down. Her repertoire has only become more colourful, mixing with a variety of “wavy” sounds and genres, from UK rap to UKG, trap, R&B, hip-hop and its many sub-genres.

An evening of live music from the Tam Bam Steel Orchestra Academy, a Community Interest Company based in South East London. Music theory and steel pan tuition will be led by Delphina. With over 20 years’ experience as a steel pannist, Delphina’s career has seen her perform in over 10 countries while accumulating numerous credits for original compositions for steel bands across Europe.
