Tributes and testimonies for Walter Rodney

Find out more about the great man that was Walter Rodney: A Global Commemoration online webinar - Saturday June 13

HERO: Walter Rodney

SATURDAY JUNE 13 marks forty years to the day that Dr Walter Rodney, a prominent Pan-Africanist, Marxist, historian and activist was brutally assassinated, killed by a car bomb in Guyana for his radical, progressive, anti-establishment views.

Without a doubt, one of the leading figures in the black Power movement in the Caribbean, North America and the UK, the FHALMA (Friends of the Huntley Archives at LMA) will reflect on the importance of Rodney’s global strategic impact with an intergenerational, international audience.

Ongoing atrocities constantly remind us that the fight against racism is relentless, than organised activations that must continue on the frontline, classrooms, in our homes and in our mindset.

Although his life was cut dreadfully short, Rodney’s revolutionary teachings and political activism have gifted many with timeless lessons, those that reveal the importance of discovering accurate, authentic African history, black identity and self-empowerment for working peoples.

Contributors include: Donald Rodney, Professor Carolyn Cooper, Keith Waithe, Professor Kimani Nehusi, Sister Jackie, Michelle Yaa Asantewa, Professor Ewart Thomas, Rod Westmaas, Professor Rupert Lewis, Karen de Souza, Vanda Radzik, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Eric Huntley with more to be announced.

Walter Rodney’s “How Europe underdeveloped Africa,” cost this brilliant teacher and academic his life.
“How Europe underdeveloped Africa” ought to be read by every African-skinned person as a protest against a caucasian system which always kills our Moses like leaders.
African-skinned people need and value our Moses like leaders who are always killed too soon: Dr. King, Malcolm X, Bob Marley and many others.
