Sanity Workouts Online: Adapting to the new shape of society as lockdown takes its toll on mental and physical health

Trainer moves his fitness classes online to help local members of the community remain sane at home

NEW WAY OF WORKING: Isaac Morrison, founder of the Meso Fitness Studio in Crystal Palace

A LOCAL fitness trainer has launched live fitness classes amidst UK’s second national lockdown.

With over 3000 gyms and fitness centres now closed across the UK, 44 of which are closed permanently, Isaac Morrison, founder of the Meso Fitness Studio in Crystal Palace, south London, has moved his fitness classes online to help local members of the community remain sane at home during the second national lockdown.

Having trained hundreds of members of the community, Isaac explains why it is vital to keep moving during this unprecedented time.

There’s no question that these national lockdowns have had an adverse effect on the nation’s health mentally and physically. To support the combat the mental stresses of dealing with this new viral strain, being confined to your home, anxiety, insanity, and depression, it was only right to find a way to help keep the community healthy, active, and motivated and Sanity Workouts Online provides just that.

“The key factors are that the sessions are live and interactive, via the Zoom video platform so you can see and engage with the instructor and the accountability is maintained and you still get that class vibe.”

VISION: Isaac Morrison

Mental Health Charity MIND has reported that more than half of adults (60%) and over two-thirds of young people (68%) have said that their mental health got worse during the lockdown, citing not being able to see people as one of the key factors.

Claire who lives in Crystal Palace said: “These classes are one of the highlights of the week! This lockdown situation is challenging but Sanity Workouts make things better”.

Catering to members currently furloughed or working, sessions are available at both 7.15am and 11.15am to help motivate people who struggle to keep fit during the pandemic.

With hopes of reopening for in-studio classes, Isaac will now offer online classes as a permanent feature for the foreseeable future.

Working out from the comfort of your own home not only provides routine and normalcy but also offers an opportunity to socialise, reducing the feelings of isolation.

When asked about his opinion on the future for gym and fitness establishments Isaac says: “This pandemic has forced the fitness industry to leap forward by 5-10 years by way of having to suddenly pivot to online fitness, but I believe despite the devastating blow the gyms have taken they will bounce back and find a way to adapt to the new shape of society as we now know it.”
