BLACK MUSIC stars including Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder and Mary J Blige have called for the US government to commission a racial justice platform within 100 days of the start of the Biden administration.

The new calls are led by Grammy award-winning artist Alicia Keys after she shared a video titled 17 Ways Black People Are Killed in America where musicians such as Khalid, Summer Walker and Migos, described the deaths of Black Americans George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery.

Her latest video is a follow up to one she released in June 2016, entitled 23 Ways You Could Be Killed By Being Black in America which saw celebrities such as Bono and Beyonce mention the deaths of Sandra Bland and Philando Castile.

The video asks for the establishment of a commission.

Keys’ proposal outlined that the racial justice commission should “properly acknowledge, memorialise, and be a catalyst for progress, including toward permanently eliminating persistent racial inequities.”

Music artist Stevie Wonder also released a similar video on Martin Luther King Day, calling for “a truth commission that forces this country to look at its lies.”

He said: “I’m calling on President Biden and Vice-president Harris to launch a formal government investigation to establish the truth of inequality in this country … without truth we cannot have accountability. Without accountability we cannot have forgiveness. Without forgiveness, we cannot heal.”
