A BLACK man who launched an appeal to help fix his front door after police officers broke it down, has now reached is fundraising target.

Dr Yusuf Daniju, a neuroscientist from Brixton, South London, was asleep in the apartment that he shares with his sister on February 11.

The front door of his home was broken down by six police officers who mistook Dr. Yusuf for another young, black teenager who had a documentation issue.

Dr Daniju was claims he was assaulted by the officers, but managed to record a one second video on his phone before it was confiscated.

In the video, he can be heard shouting: “Why are you kicking me?”

Dr Daniju, who is well known in his community, was later released, However he was left without a front door after the incident, during cold weather conditions.

Sean Froudist-Walsh, Dr.Yusuf’s good friend, said the police have shown no “remorse for this completely unjustified attack on a young black man and role model in the community.”

He was unable to leave his apartment following the incident, as the door poses a security risk for his sister and their belongings.

Walsh set up a GoFundMe appeal to help his friend replace his door. The original target was £1,400 for the lowest quality door. However, when that target was reached, they set a new target of £3,000 for a front door that was the same model as the one the police destroyed.

Dr. Yusuf has since expressed his gratitude for the donations which have now topped over £3,000 and reassured people that he and his sister are well.

He has asked people to donate to other good causes instead.
