George Clooney: Meghan Markle Is Being ‘Vilified’

The Hollywood actor has compared the new royal’s treatment to that of Princess Diana

SPEAKING OUT: George Clooney said Meghan Markle's experience is an example of history repeating itself

GEORGE CLOONEY has criticised those who have heavily scrutinised Meghan Markle and compared her treatment by the press to that of Princess Diana.

Clooney, who attended the royal wedding of Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex with his wife, Amal, made the comments in an interview with Australian magazine Who.

The father of 18-month old twins Ella and Alexander was responding to speculation over whether he would be godfather to Meghan and Harry’s baby when he spoke out about the treatment of Meghan in the media.

Clooney, although a friend of the couple, has denied reports that he will be the godfather to their first child.

He said: “I’m the father of twins, I have enough sh** to deal with – literally!”

He went on to tell the magazine: “I do want to say, they’re just chasing Meghan Markle everywhere, she’s been pursued and vilified.”

He added: “She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was and its history repeating itself.

“We’ve seen how that ends. I can’t tell you how frustrating that is, just seeing them broadcast a letter from a daughter to a father, she’s getting a raw deal there and I think it’s irresponsible and I’m surprised by that.”

Meghan has been subjected to attacks from tabloid press who have blamed her for the departure of royal aides, accused her of feuding with Kate Middleton and criticised her for caressing her baby bump.

Her relationship with her estranged father, Thomas Markle, has also attracted made her a target for negative press.

The overwhelming narrative about the Duchess of Sussex has seen many call members of the British press out for racism on the basis that Meghan has been singled out because of her mixed-race identity.

On Twitter, one commenter wrote: “I’m so tired of people thinly disguising their racism as concern for Meghan Markle’s royal conduct.”

Responding to the contrast between the negative coverage Meghan received for wearing a one shoulder dress and the positive way it was framed when Kate did the same, one commenter wrote on Twitter: “Evidence of the not so thinly veiled racism Meghan Markle is having to face since becoming a royal. No one is saying anything about Kate.”

    Villified for what?
She’s an actress chosen as Harry’s wife. Media manipulation.
Like Clooney. Except Harry likes Meghan and their marriage is real. Including the child.

Clooney is in sham publicity arrangement. Not even biological father of the twins. Nico LeTallec is with Tala Alamuddin.
