SEX AND the City star Kristin Davis has opened up about the racial abuse her children have faced.

The 54-year-old actress appeared on Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk where she explained how her African-American daughter has been subjected to racism ever since she was little.

The actress adopted Gemma Rose in 2011. She also adopted a son in 2018 but has yet to reveal his name.

During her appearance on the popular web-show which discused whether white people should adopt black children, Davis admitted her experience so far has left her ‘horrified’, as Pinkett-Smith pointed out that she’s had to confront racism, discrimiamntion, and prejudices in a whole different way’ after seeing it directed at her children.

“I was horrified, it’s hard to put into words really.”

Davis recalled an instance where people said her daughter would become a “great basketball player” which left Pinkett-Smith and her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Jones, who co-hosts the show, in shock.

“How dare they limit my child and how dare they make that assumption and how can they just say it like that, so casual?

“I was like ‘Oh God, please, don’t let it be everybody’ but our country is built on this and it is institutionalised and that is what you come to realise as time goes on.”

She added: “I will never be black and I will never be able to say to Gemma, “I understand how you feel because his happened to me,” that is what’s painful and hard.”

However, Davis has credited the support from, African-American mums who’ve helped her to ‘learn’ the best way to sup[port her children.

During the episode, the trio discussed the concept of white privilege, to which Banfield-Jones asked Davis what the adoption of her two children taught her.

She said: “This is what I want to say, from a white person adopting [black children]: You absolutely do not fully understand. There’s no doubt.

“There’s no way you could, because you could understand you live in white privilege and that’s a theory but it’s one thing to be watching it [racism] happening to other people and another when it’s your child.

“And you haven’t personally been through it. It’s a big issue, it’s something I think about every day and every night.”
