MUSICIAN NONAME who is now well-known for her social justice campaigning spoke on social media about the upcoming Black Panther film, Judas and The Black Messiah and current black political prisoners in the US.

The artist, whose real name is Fatimah Nyeema Warner took the opportunity to share petitions and ways to support current American political prisoners.

Posting a message on her Instagram account, she said: “The recent uptick in Hollywood portrayals of black radicals with no real push for the immediate release of all black political prisoners makes these movies feel vapid and exploitative.

“A capitalist machine is portraying the very same radicals that consistently told us not to trust Hollywood, the establishment press, or any media outlets central to US empire.

On her Twitter account, she added: “I hope we use this renewed interest in prominent black radicals as momentum to get all political prisoners free.

“Hollywood won’t advocate for them. that’s up to us!”

She then shared a number of petitions advocating for political prisoners Mutulu Shakur, Sundiata Acoli, Jamil Al-Amin, Veronza Bowers, Joy Powell, Chip Fitzgerald, Kamu Sadiki, Ed Poindexter and Josh Williams to be freed.

A number of them were involved in Black Liberation movements, and many were targeted by COINTELPRO, the FBI’s Counter-Intelligence Program. Many of them claim they are innocent.

Almost 70,000 people have signed a petition calling for the release of Jamil Al-Amin. His son says that the former civil rights leader has spent more than 20 years in prison.
