Campaigning for iChange in the City

Dr Miranda Brawn is running to be City Alderman with her "ICHANGES" vision for inclusion and sustainability

THE ONLY person of colour in the upcoming Aldermanic elections in the City of London has thrown her hat in the ring to join the City’s Court of Aldermen to become an Alderman and future Lord Mayor of London. Non-Executive Director and Philanthropist Dr Miranda Brawn is contesting the Cordwainer aldermanic election on 26th May 2022 alongside two women and two men. This seat is vacant following the death of Alderman Sir Roger Gifford (Alderman of the Ward of Cordwainer since 2004) on 25 May 2021.

The election comes during years of intense scrutiny for the City’s elected body over its lack of gender and ethnic diversity. Dr Brawn is in the running to become the second woman of colour in over 900 years to hold the coveted role of Alderman within the City of London. The first black female Alderman was The Rt Hon the Baroness Patricia Scotland of Asthal, QC who won her seat in 2014.

London born and raised, Dr Brawn, who is a former investment banker, hedge fund sales trader and senior banking lawyer, and currently non-executive director and strategic board advisor for global corporate boards, has worked in the City for decades, ranked as one of the leading women in finance and business, one of the first women of colour on the City’s trading floor, was named in the Women in Finance Award’s ‘Woman of the Year’ and ‘Ambassador of the Year’ for ‘extraordinary and sustained achievement…within Finance‘ and ‘voice for change’, said she was “humbled” by the support and encouragement from both in and out of City including former Lord Mayors of London to put her name forward for the Aldermanic elections.

Others have said that Dr Brawn “has an ability to galvanise heads of state, foreign ministers and business leaders…in a way that is very effective with integrity” and “unafraid to raise novel points for progressive global change”. Another said: “She will make a great Alderman and this is just what the City needs right now”.

Dr Miranda Brawn said: “If the voters elect me as their next Alderman, I plan to work towards an “iCHANGES” modernised future for an “Innovative/Inclusive”, “Cleaner”, “Healthier”, “Action-led”, “Net-zero”, “Goal/Growth”, “Equality/Equitable” focus on “Sustainability” with first-class solutions including transport, climate change, diversity and technology led approaches.  I will also help the Corporation to reflect on the growing diverse make-up of the City and global society.

Almost everyone accepts that we need greater diversity, inclusion and sustainable solutions in the City and public office alike. For me, delivering my “iCHANGE” vision is not about slogans but about substance; not about lip service but about public service, not about words but about deeds with integrity and transparency. ‘Back Brawn and see the benefits of my iCHANGES vision‘ when you vote for me on Election Day on the 26th May 2022!”

Having African-heritage people in public life has not helped to improve policies; Laws or behaviour.

I do not celebrate whenever a African-heritage men or woman becomes the first ….

By themselves they cannot make much change.
