£20,000 rewards offered in connection to two south London murders

Police are asking anyone with information about the fatal stabbing of John Ogunjobi and Jude Gayle to come forward

APPEAL: John Ogunjobi, left, and Jude Gayle

REWARDS OF £20,000 are being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murders of John Ogunjobi and Jude Gayle.

Ogunjobi, 16, was fatally stabbed on Monday, November 5 2018 after being attacked in Tulse Hill at around 10.50pm.

DCI Richard Vandenbergh said the altercation that lead to Ogunjobi’s death would have “undoubtedly” been witnessed by a number of people and that he hoped the reward would encourage people to share what they know with the police.

“We are also asking people to think back as to whether they saw a black Audi Q5 car on the evening of the murder or in the days leading up to or following it,” he said.

“Think back, have you seen the Polo? Has anyone lent their Polo out and it has been returned damaged, or have you repaired the damage to a Polo matching this description or even had a crash with a similar Polo and exchanged details with the driver?” Vandenbergh said.

He added: “Moreover, I think it is quite likely that some people who were friends with John will hold vital information that they haven’t shared with police. They should think about his death at such a tragically young age, think about the misery caused to John’s family and maybe think about the reward too – and then make what is surely an easy decision – to come forward and speak with police.”

Partner, daughter and unborn child left to face life alone

Gayle, a 30-year-old father-of-two, was stabbed to death in an alleyway near his home in West Norwood on Sunday, September 24 2017.

He had been preparing dinner for his family when he left his home and drove the short distance to a corner shop on the junction of Dunbar Street and Norwood High Street.

After leaving the corner shop he was attacked in an alleyway in Dunelm Grove.

The Met has announced this week that it is offering a £20,000 serious crime reward for information that leads to the identification, arrest and prosecution of those responsible for Gayle’s murder.

Jude’s partner Rachel Goodchild said: “Sunday 24th September started like any other Sunday but ended so far from anything I thought could ever happen to me. That day Jude – my partner, my children’s father – got brutally murdered. Leaving me, his beloved daughter and unborn son to face life alone. Our daughter speaks daily of Jude, wanting, wishing and hoping her reality of her daddy no longer being with us is just a dream. She just can’t understand why he is no longer here with us, something I will have to face all over again as our son gets older.”

Goodchild added that she owed it to Jude and their children to get justice. “So I am pleading from the deepest part of me, please, if you or anybody you know has any information – no matter how big or small – please help with the ongoing investigation.”

Three men were prosecuted with Gayle’s murder but were all later to be found not guilty following a trial at the Old Bailey.

Anyone with information about the murder of either Jude Gayle or John Ogunjobi is asked to contact the incident room on 020 8721 4961 or via the police non-emergency number 101.
