A ST Bonaventure’s pupil who was fatally stabbed in east London in October has been remembered with a seven-a-side under-16 football tournament organised in his honour.

Baptista Adjei’s life was tragically cut short at the tender age of 15 when he was stabbed outside of the Stratford Centre on Thursday, October 10 2019.

The tournament was held at the Bobby Moore Pavilion in Flanders Playing Fields, Napier Road, East Ham.

Baptista’s coach, Jeff Merrifield spoke highly of the teen. He told the Newham Recorder: “He was part of a team I ran until last year. He was very bubbly, very high energy.

He continued: “He was full of spontaneous laughter, with massive smiles. He was only 15, just starting out in life.”

The tournament was organised to honour the teen and ensure that the message about the severity of knife crime is not ignored.

“We want Baptista to impact as many people as possible,” Merrifield said.

Teams of boys and girls played separately in aid of Baptista’s family during the three-hour long competition organised by Flanders FC and Bonny Downs Community Association.

Last month, the Metropolitan Police announced that detectives investigating the murder of 15-year-old had made two more arrests, bringing the total of those arrested in connection to Adjei’s death to three.
