Former Voice journalist dies

Respected Barbara Campbell was a pioneer within the media industry

RESPECTED: Barbara Campbell

RESPECTED JOURNALIST Barbara Campbell has died. News of her passing broke on the evening of December 29 on social media.

In 1994 she started working at The Voice before becoming editor of the publication’s sister paper, The Journal.

Barbara went on to launch Britain’s first Black History Month magazine, Black Heritage Today, in 2003.

Recently Barbara’s daughter, Leanna, said via social media: ‘Hello friends of Barbara Campbell. For those unaware my mother has been battling dementia for the past few years and unfortunately is now in the final stages where she is unable to swallow anymore.

“The doctors advised us that she may leave us soon. The visits she has been receiving so far has been making a difference and keeping her fighting.”

My beautiful friend, board member and Mentor Barbara Campbell has departed on Thursday 27th December, with her children by her side. Many of you will know her for the great legacy as a Publisher and Editor of Black Heritage Today magazine, Live Listings and so much more that she did for the black community.

I spent 4 hours with her singing & playing reggae songs, a couple days before she past. I’m devastated but what can I do? If you live long enough you will eventually meet your glory.

My love goes out to her 2 children and the Campbell family. Your prayers at this time is needed. Rest In Peace Babs ?? Gone but not forgotten. I will always love you.
