TWO TEENAGERS have been found guilty of the murder a UberEats moped delivery driver in Battersea.

Jadan Richards, 19, and a 16-year-old boy, who has not been named for legal reasons, were found guilty of murder of Iderval da Silva at the Old Bailey today. 

Another 16-year-old boy, who also cannot be named, was found guilty of manslaughter following a trial.

They will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, 5 February.

An 18-year-old and a 17-year-old boy were found not guilty.

Da Silva had been enjoying a meal with friends prior to his UberEats shift when he saw someone trying to steal his moped on May 25.

He confronted the 16-year-old who boy who was sat on the moped trying to start it. As Da Silva attempted to prevent his moped from being stolen, the boy’s friends joined him and began to brutally attack Da Silva. Within moments, the 46-year-old was unconscious and he was fighting for his life.

The Brazilian national was taken to the hospital and died three days later on Tuesday, May 28 2019.

That attack was witnessed by members of the public, including Iderval’s friends.

DI Tariq Farooqi, who led the investigation. He said: “Iderval was targeted purely because he was the owner of the scooter. When he tried to prevent his livelihood from being taken away from him, the violence then ensued. They were ferocious and heartless in the way they attacked him.

“The attackers, who are all known to each other, clearly set out that day to commit crime. Because of this, a family have lost a truly loved individual who was trying to provide for his son and extended family members.

“I would also like to thank the witnesses who assisted police during the investigation and showed courage in attending court to give evidence. It showed true community spirit and a determination to bring to justice those responsible for this horrific attack. I know the family of Iderval are grateful to all those that have supported the investigation and assisted police.”
