MAYOR OF London Sadiq Khan will join activists and stars to march for climate justice and gender justice tomorrow (March 9).
This year’s #March4Women will highlight women and girls who are on the frontline of responding to climate change.
The event will start with a rally at the Royal Festival Hall, hosted at the WOW – Women of the World festival.
Supporters will then be guided over the Thames river and join with further crowd at Whitehall Place before marching to Parliament Square for the event finale.
The opening rally, hosted by BBC broadcaster Emma Barnett, will see performances from Emeli Sandé, RAYE, the Urban Voices Collective and Bond quartet.
Debate
There will also be discussion and debate from people such as Yesterday star Himesh Patel, Ugandan climate activist Hilda Nakabuye, Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), Sanjeev Bhaskar from hit BBC show Kumars at No 42 and poet Selina Nwulu.
Verbatim testimonies of people impacted by the climate crisis will be arranged by playwright Tess Berry-Hart.
The event will end with a grand finale, organised by charity CARE International, at Parliament Square, opposite the Houses of Parliament.
Among those appearing at the finale are gender equality campaigner and publisher Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu, 1917 actor George Mackay and poet Nikita Gill.
Proud
Speaking about the event Khan said: “I’m proud to be marching alongside women and allies this International Women’s Day.
“The gender inequality we still see in our city, country and globally is unacceptable. As Mayor, and as a proud feminist, I’m determined that no woman or girl should be disadvantaged just because of their gender and want London to lead the way in changing that.”
