RAPPERS BUGZY Malone and AJ Tracey are delivering Christmas dinners and presents for children and young people in the lead up to this year’s unprecedented Christmas.
AJ Tracey has been handing out Christmas dinner food boxes around London. Publicised on the North Kensington Secret Santa Instagram, a campaign is providing “100 deserving youths in North Kensington with Christmas presents.”
The group posted on Instagram that they have delivered 30 boxes to Dalgarno food bank, 10 boxes to Al Manaar mosque, as well as doing home deliveries. Among the deliveries are halal turkeys and pizzas.
The first deliveries were made to Kids On The Green, a creative arts project set up in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower tragedy, yesterday.
Meanwhile, Manchester-born Bugzy Malone and his team have bought 50 underprivileged children a sack full of presents each.
Writing on his Instagram page, which has 1.2 million followers, Malone said: “Christmas was never a good time for me or my family so hopefully these presents make a difference to the families that are going to receive them.”
He said that he had worked closely with his accountant and social workers to make sure they knew each individual child would get presents that they wanted and deserved.
“To the children that I have bought these gifts for if you ever see this, enjoy Christmas day as much as possible and just know things always get better in life. Remember it doesn’t matter where you start it’s where you end up,” he wrote.
The rappers are not the only high-profile Black British celebrities that have used their success to help others.
This year, Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has led a campaign to extend free school meals during the holiday. He has spoken out about having to go without food as a child.
Rashford received an Expert Panel Special Award at the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year show on Sunday 20 December.
The award was given to honour his work raising awareness of child food poverty in the UK.
