What is the ethnicity pay gap in your workplace?

Government have resisted calls to introduce mandatory monitoring

Dianne Greyson founded the ethnicity pay day campaign

A NEW campaign has been launched to push for more equal pay for black, Asian and minority ethnic employees.

The Ethnicity Pay Gap Campaign Day will take place on Saturday and is raising awareness about differences in pay received amongst black, Asian and minority ethnic workers in comparison to their white counterparts.

The initiative is encouraging individuals from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds to approach the organisations that they work for and ask them to consider reporting their Ethnicity Pay Gap.

The Ethnicity Pay Gap campaign was founded three years ago, by Dianne Greyson, and hopes to encourage the government to make Ethnicity Pay Gap report mandatory.

Government equality ministers Kemi Badenoch and Liz Truss have so far resisted cross-party calls to introduce mandatory ethnicity pay monitoring, despite demands from former prime minister Theresa May, the CBI and TUC.

Gender pay monitoring has previously been introduced.

In 2020, several UK companies across different sectors reported their Ethnicity Pay Gaps, with many businesses admitting they “have a long way to go” to address pay disparities amongst their workforce.

Many businesses, who voluntarily disclosed their pay details, have set out action plans to improve the pay for their black, Asian and minority ethnic workers and make their businesses more representative and inclusive.

The Ethnicity Pay Gap campaign is also urging organisations to tackle pay disparities once and for all.

The campaign aims to work towards finding solutions to close the pay gap for Black, Asian and minority ethnic workers and to encourage companies to make Ethnicity Pay Gap Reporting part of their diversity strategy.

The new strategy hopes to ultimately improve the pay and financial rewards for black, Asian and minority ethnic workers.
