A BLACK owned broadcasting and entertainment company will provide paid internships to university students who want to start careers in the media industry.

Tribe Urban Entertainment has teamed up with the University of Greenwich to provide six-month paid internships to eight first-year and second-year students at the university – who want a break into the radio and broadcasting industries.

The exciting new partnership will start in March and aims to help students gain real-life and hands-on work experience to set them apart from others in the competitive field.

Speaking about their partnership with University of Greenwich, Tribe Urban CEO Michael Bullion said: “We believe that young graduates deserve the opportunity to gain proper employment in their chosen industry, and we want to help make that happen.

“If students continuously graduate without the clear opportunities of getting into the industry that they are spending money to get into in the first place, they will become more and more disillusioned with the whole concept of higher education.”

Mr Bullion recalled his own challenges seeking employment without work experience when he was a graduate from the university and insists work experience can really make the difference.

He added: “When I was a graduate, I witnessed just how difficult it is to gain employment within your prospective industry without any work experience, and I believe that this partnership can help many students gain the necessary work experience they need for them to gain meaningful employment after they graduate”.

Tribe Urban’s internship program for University of Greenwich is only open to first-year and second-year students studying courses in the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences, particularly the School of Stage and Screen, and the School of Design.

The students will get experience in journalism, broadcasting, radio production, content creation, and social media, by working across Tribe Urban’s main businesses, including Tribe Urban Studios and Tribe Urban Radio.

The internship will allow participating students a chance to  build their portfolios, produce a brand new radio show and provide a clear path to employment after they graduate.

On behalf of University of Greenwich, Head of School of Design, Professor Anastasios Maragiannis described the joint venture as a “great honour.”

Prof  Maragiannis said: “It’s great that we celebrate our new partnership (with Tribe Urban Entertainment). The university is fortunate to have a large and diverse alumni community, and enjoy relationships with some of our most talented graduates […] Greenwich alumni and Tribe Urban CEO Michael Bullion has returned to offer eight work placements, so it’s a great honour to have this offer back from our graduate.

“Our university strategy is guided by principles that speak to this partnership – creating opportunities for individuals and society, building partnerships, and delivering impact, not only for us, but for the whole institute, for the community, for Greenwich, for London and beyond”.
