PRINCE HARRY and Meghan Markle have donated an undisclosed amount to charities in Nigeria to battle the raging flooding in parts of the country.

The west-African nation has been swamped by flood waters in 31 states since the start of the rainy season this year. Around 392,399 hectares of farmland are understood to have been totally damaged.

On Tuesday, the Nigerian government confirmed that 612 people had died and 3,219,780 others have been severely impacted by the extreme weather conditions.

The Stateside couple made the generous donation to “help provide relief following devastating flooding” that will go to Nigerian-run charities working directly in the recovery efforts, a Spotify representative confirmed.

It comes after the Duchess of Sussex revealed that she was 43% Nigerian in her latest Archetypes podcast series released earlier this week.

The ex-Royal, whose mother is African-American, said she made the discovery a “couple years ago” after completing a genealogy test while in conversation with Nigerian-American comedian, Ziwe.

The couple, who run the Archewell Foundation, also confirmed that they donated to charities UNICEF and Save the Children.

Amid torrential rainfall in the region, the flood has also been blamed on water surging from a dam in Cameroon which neighbours Nigeria.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, told reporters earlier this week that 1,427,370 people have been displaced and 2,776 have been injured as a result of the ferocious floods.

Save the Children Nigeria confirmed the donation to the relief efforts, tweeting: “More than 1.5 million children are at risk after devastating flooding in Nigeria.

“Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Foundation has donated to Save the Children in Nigeria as our teams deliver life-saving supplies to affected families.”
