Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu: It’s time to call out Prince William on racism

HAIR APPARENT: Prince William can't hide his thinning credibility (Pic: Ben Birchall-WPA Pool/Getty Images)

PRINCE WILLIAM is notorious for wearing his casual racism like he wears his receding hairline – visibly.

Do not mistake his comments as ignorance. Nothing could be further from the truth.

A graduate of Eton, St Andrews, a student of geography, trained British military officer and a White privileged man of wealth and class cannot claim any kind of ignorance on the effect of treating wars in Europe as ‘alien’ and the exception compared to elsewhere.

Facts, both current and history attests that his statement is a wrong. His own family history his epic proof that war and violence is part of his inheritance and his family’s legacy.

His statement is whitewashed revisionist nonsense.

Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu: The prince cannot claim ignorance – war is in his family DNA

Furthermore, Prince William cannot claim ignorance of the very recent public outrage at the biased and racist Western media coverage of the Ukraine war.

In the fourteen days since it was invaded by Russia, the dog whistle rhetoric dehumanising African, Asian and Middle Eastern countries as uncivilised – or the racial disparity in how Europeans treat White refugees as opposed to Black and Brown refugees fleeing wars – has been stark.

Words like ‘civilised’ have been used to describe Ukraine, while other war-torn countries have been talked about as ‘developing’ and ‘third-world’. This makes his statement more egregious, deliberate and reprehensible.

White people are some of the worst warmongering people on earth with the bloodiest history of wars that date back centuries.

War is not alien in Europe, it is part and parcel of the fabric of its societies.

Europe then took its bloodthirstiness in pillaging, corrupting, destroying and stealing from many non-white nations, some of which it colonised with unmitigated savagery and violence.

The only reason we see White people as ‘natives’ of countries like Canada, the United States and Australia to name a few is because their ancestors savaged the indigenous inhabitants of these territories with violence and pure evil.

“Mr ‘we are very much not a racist family’ is shamelessly parroting racist rhetoric which dehumanises lives of black people fleeing war”

Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu

That is where their origins come from. The history of the United Kingdom itself is dominated by violent wars and division to date among itself – let’s not forget the 100 years war over territories about who sits on a throne.

In my opinion, Britain has been the most responsible for wars and bloodshed that span continents. European wars in recent memory such as Bosnia, Crimea, Kosovo, Chechnya to name a few – what about ethnic cleansing, concentration camps and mass killings in Europe over the past decade?

To date, wars which have erupted in countries in Africa and Asia have had the fingerprints of Europeans all over it, be it directly or indirectly, that have instigated and/or escalated the wars there. So Prince William should re-examine what he means by ‘alien’ because violence and war is in the DNA of Europe and in his bloodline.

Mr ‘we are very much not a racist family’ is giving real energy in shamelessly parroting racist rhetoric normalising wars outside Europe which inevitably dehumanises lives of many Black and Brown people fleeing from war torn countries and fuels the continued dehumanisation of their lives and how they are treated as refugees.

HIGH AND HAUGHTY: Prince William is carried to his plane on the Solomon Islands in 2012 (Pic: Mark Large – Pool/Getty Images)

Prince William knows better but chooses to do the opposite because he is utterly indifferent to racism in all of its forms experienced by Africans and Asians.

Intentional or not, overt or covert, casual or not – racism is racism and cannot be layered into categories of OK, Bad and Very Bad.

It is all bad and simply not acceptable at any age, period of time and in any circumstances.

Prince William epitomises the problem of downplaying racism by excusing behaviours, language and actions that ultimately negatively impact the quality of life and choice of Black, Asians and other non-white ethnic groups.

For those who are hardcore apologists of racism and spring to defend Prince William as a victim of ‘woke culture’, let me use your own argument to rebuff your hypocrisy.

Is or is not Prince William, in your words, ‘a product of his time’? A time of George Floyd’s racially motivated murder; a time of the global black lives matter movement; a time of Covid Vaccine apartheid to countries in Africa, Asia and the global south; a time of aggravated racially motivated abuse and violence against Black and Brown people; and a time of growing disparity of imbalance of power between West and the global south?

Is ‘product of his time’ not the position you consistently take to defend memorialized slave traders, white supremacy ideology and whitewashed British history so what is your excuse for Prince William, a product of his time in 2022 who should know better?

If Prince William did not mean to normalise wars and conflicts in countries in Africa, Asia etc what was the basis for saying what he is seeing in Ukraine war is ‘alien’ in Europe? Stop gaslighting.

Prince William must be held to account for his depraved indifference.

From the time he failed to lead and express unequivocal objection at the racist abuse of his sister-in-law Meghan Markle, he lost credibility while his silence and complicity fuels the racism we condemn today.

Words have power, meaning and consequence. The word of the future King of England is no exception.

He does not have Harry to hide behind. If Harry was that event Harry would have taken the fall. William wanted Harry to leave England so that he does not have to complete with Harry for the spotlight. Well he has the spotlight all to him self now and I think it will not be kind to him. Now the world knows Harry was the smart one and hard worker. Harry is free to grow and shine without always taken the fall for his brother the heir.

Agree 100% Dr Shola Mos- Shogabamimu; however, I don’t believe there is any value in seeking an apology from the DNA of the slave master who has a direct interest in discrediting people of color and those he held as property. His comments simply advertise the colonial oppression, insult and persecution of black people in our own country by dehumanising our virtues and making us less than human in the eyes of the world. Agree words have power and can make or unmake, including future Kings. It is shocking to have a future king, a product of his time, who still thinks of the world as a nation of undesirable Blacks / Asians (bad) and the desirable white (good) nation, completely ignoring those black nations they have invaded and enslaved. I am sure his allies will come to his rescue in a manner of speaking as a man of “ignorance ” whether he will ever acquire a consciousness of the errors of drawing on the color line and, as you put it on, his depraved indifference is yet to come. Great come back !

Several people mentioned William’s relationship with his sister in law. Actually William was so much against her that when he realized Charles wouldn’t intervene, he went as far as asking his uncle, Charles Spencer, Diana’s brother “to do something about it” and prevent the marriage.

A worthy read! Blatant arrogance, ignorance, classism & racism have no place in the thought processes or utterances of current leaders nor in those who see themselves as future leaders.

    Excellent commentary.
Within this era there are some that want to stop teaching factual information in schools, remove books, rewrite history. Vital we speak out, educate, remain diligent and make sure the next generation is focused, determined, diligent. Situation not isolated. POC are effected globally. Thank you.

William should learn to emulate his younger brother and initiate a process of lifelong learning. William’s massive ego and his inability and unwillingness to learn from others have stunted his growth and emotional intelligence.

Harry, on the other hand, continues to grow and to apply his knowledge and understanding to real life situations.

Thank you, thank you Doctor, It’s about time the world sees William and his copy wife Kate -They are racist. They participated in the hate towards Meghan and assisted in all attempts to discredit and ruined Meghan’s life (e.g.legal case against the daily fail). The world will stand back and watch Karma visit his family.

Good article, no other media person in the UK will write.

Like clockwork, and as part of the invisable contract, the palace mouthpieces in the UK media and those in the royal commentarry circuit run to defend him, so he doesn’t have to appoligize. Not that he ever will.

Over the past year, the royals keep proving that every aspect of Meghan and Harry’s Oprah interview, the UK press was quick to label as ‘full of lies’, appear to be true.

Great article! “The word of the future King… is no exception”. 100% in agreement on all you said.

He also said he was bored of racism & fed up of it in relation to racism in football. The privilege to be bored when others just want to be treated fairly. He failed at Meghan for me & I’ve had no time for him since.

Would love him to get booed in the Caribbean later this month, just after he’s used Black & Brown people for photo ops at the commonwealth day service.

The British monarchy had been riddled with racism for centuries. Their arrogance exists to this day, hence William’s outrageous comments. His racism is so inherent that he just spoke without a care in the World about its implications. So much for the Commonwealth.

After the entire disastrous public treatment of Meghan by the Royal Family, you’d think they’d attempt to put their best foot forward. Obviously not. They got that Black woman off of their Buckingham Palace balcony and will continue their racist behavior unabated for generations to come. What a vile lot of grifter.

    So beautifully written.
History is our teacher. Unless and until we listen, atrocities will repeat themselves.
There’s enough evidence to suggest that William is a casual racist, for whom comments like these are just part of everyday banter. One wonders where he learned it so well, seeing as he claims his family is very much not racist. Folks are not asking for anything but accountability from him, a public servant “living a life of service” and future future head of state and head of the church of England. It is appalling to see what this means… from a queen publicly supportive of a son accused of child rape, to future king who paid off the accuser. To the family that completely failed to support its close relations when attacked by tabloids… Never mind the future future king who is very much racist. Is this what Britons want added to their already atrocious history of looting, enslavement and warmongering?
Again, history. If one refuses to learn from it, they repeat

Racism and privilege at it finest. Well said, it’s in his DNA think about and speak of those that this family has stolen from. I’m an indigenous person living in “Canada” that was ravaged by Europeans and in their version of history was “discovered” My ancestors traveled to England to speak to the king, after traveling for days all he gave them was 15 minutes. The arrogance and their treatment towards other human beings is atrocious. This family doesn’t know the meaning of human being, they’ve lived in privilege too long. Along with the catholic churches they created residential schools and tried to take the Indian out of the child. Taking children away from their parents as young as 3. When is the world going to wake up anf abolish “royal” families across the world? What is their purpose other then living off of tax payers money, following ridiculous rituals and rules. These people really think highly of themselves. This families history has always had blood on their hands. This is why this family will continue to suffer, the treatment they inflict on others they will experience ten fold. They’ve been paying for their own actions for decades with deaths, divorces, division and perversion. I don’t know why people worship and condone their bad behavior? Creator always has a plan for those that are selfish. One day they will experience all of what they did and how they treat others. I’ve witnessed it.

I agree with some of this article, but other parts are simply wrong. White people are no more warlike than other people. Global history tells us that war, oppression, mass murder and slavery have been very common in numerous societies worldwide.
